1/2 pint jars (makes 20-24 jars)
- 1/2 or 1/3 cup Thrive Quick Oats (1 #10 can)
- 1 T. Thrive Honey Crystals (1 pantry can)
- 1 T. Thrive Instant Milk (1 pantry can)
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 cup of Thrive fruit of choice (1 #10 can)
If you purchase all of the above items you can make about 20-24 individual serving oatmeal jars. Simply add hot water to the jar, shake up, and enjoy in 3-5 minutes. Feel free to substitute for any sweetener of choice or any brand of instant oatmeal.
QUESTIONS:
How much water should I add?
This is a personal preference but for jars that have 1/3 cup oatmeal I did 1/2 cup of hot water. For jars with 1/2 cup of oatmeal I would do slightly more than that.
Can I substitute brown sugar for the honey?
YES! You can use any sweetener of your choice. I have heard of people using Thrive's applesauce, powdered stevia, regular sugar, etc. The only concern would be the brown sugar hardening so plan to use the jars quickly or remove the oxygen before storing.
How long is the shelf life?
These will last up to a year without any special treatment. If you use foodsaver bags, or a jar lid attachment, or use oxygen absorbers you can extend that to 3-5 years. But I promise you will just EAT THEM.
How much does one jar cost?
The cost varies depending on what type of fruit you use and what you do for the add-ins. It can be as low as about $0.75 per jar up to about $1.25 for the more expensive fruits. If you use Thrive's quick oats it's a little pricer than just store-brand quick oats. Either one works if you aren't planning to keep sealed for long term food storage.
